Region 9 Home Visiting Program

Parents as Teachers and Group Connections

Region 9 Education Cooperative is proud to announce that we have received funding to implement a home visiting program for Lincoln County. Home visitors have trained in the Parents as Teachers curriculum, which includes group connections (playgroups) held two times a month. "Parents as Teachers promotes the optimal early development, learning, and health of young children by supporting and engaging their parents and caregivers. We advance the delivery of high quality services for families through a comprehensive system of supports and innovative solutions." Our home visitors are ready to support families and provide activities and resources in the comfort of the home. The group connection/play groups are designed to support social connections with one another, to provide parent/caregiver and child interaction, and to help increase parent/caregiver knowledge of ways to support their children's growth and development.

Evaluation results shown for families involved in Parents as Teacher are as follows:

  • Children's developmental delays and health problems detected early
  • Children enter kindergarten ready to learn, and the achievement gap narrows
  • Children achieve school success into the elementary grades
  • Parents improve their parenting knowledge and skills
  • Parents are more involved in their children's schooling
  • Families are more likely to promote children's language and literacy
