This one-day training session will provide participants with an overview of evidence-based strategies in the area of classroom behavior management. Using Randy Sprick’s CHAMPS book as a resource, participants will learn how to create, fine-tune, and implement a classroom-management plan based on the positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) framework. This training supports teachers who want to establish smooth and efficient classroom routines, set clear standards, and reduce problem behavior by explicitly teaching behavioral expectations and reinforcing positive behavior. Nine training chapters focus on classroom vision, organizing routines and procedures, teaching expectations during the first month of school, developing motivational systems, monitoring student behavior, responding to and correcting misbehavior. Within each chapter, a series of competencies are presented along with self-assessment and peer discussion activities regarding these competencies. Participants will be introduced to the development of a classroom behavior management plan for preventing misbehavior and effectively managing the problems that arise.
