R9 Work-Based Learning Initiatives (WBLI)

R9 wind energy training in action! Become a certified wind technician right out of high school! R9, in partnership with Mesaland Community College, provided R9 member district students the opportunity to become a certified wind technician straight out of High School. High school dual credit opportunities are available for all participating R9 member school districts who have signed up! R9 students have access to the amazing R9 wind energy mobile trailer, which allows them to complete their required lab work from a distance. Please see our R9 wind energy trailer for a sneak peek.

The Mesaland Wind Energy program provides real-world training experience. Upon completion of the program, students take a field trip to Tucumcari NM, to climb the Mesaland College’s General Electric 1.5 megawatt ESS wind turbine and may perform actual maintenance and repair. Dedicated to training and research, the college owns the turbine. It is fully operational and provides power to the facility. The wind turbine at Mesalands Community College is truly the "highest classroom in the whole world."
